Boat Trip Information

The Lively Lady takes guests on a lobster fishing and nature cruise of Penobscot Bay that visits four major habitats of coastal wildlife. As the Lively Lady travels out to the islands, guests and crew look for porpoises. The Lively Lady can go safely in close to the islands of different species of nesting birds (ospreys, bald eagles, many kinds of ducks and water birds) and two seal pupping areas to see the seal pups. The boat visits the pupping area where Andre the seal was born and Captain Philbrick talks about Andre's life and exploits.

For people who wish to see authentic lobster fishing, the Lively Lady hauls its own lobster traps allowing guests to learn all about lobstering along the coast of Maine. The captain hauls up traps, takes out the live lobsters, bands them and makes comments and observations about the catch. You will learn whether the lobster is hard shell, soft shell, male or female. You will learn the correct way it is measured and why fins have sometimes to be notched. You will learn about the lobster's life cycle and how traps are baited and set, how the lobster fishermen makes his living and the skills and tools of the lobstering trade.

No two trips aboard the Lively Lady are the same, but they are always full of the beauty and wonder of coastal Maine.
