The Blue Sky Cantina is a Mexican-style restaurant located on Route 1 in Rockport, just a little over a mile from downtown Camden village. The restaurant recreates the ambience and atmosphere of a rustic cantina, looking out through the jungle to Chichen Itsa, the Mayan ruins of southern Mexico. The restaurant serves classic Mexican fare such as nachos, taquitos, quesadillas, chipotle BBQ chicken wings, to Mexican "pizza" and their own Mondo-Mexi cheese fries, a gorgeous mound of french fries covered with melted cheeses, black beans, bacon, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, sour cream and cilantro. Conte's Restaurant is the area's most unusual dining experience. "Funky" hardly does Conte's justice. People either hate or love Conte's, there is usually no in-between. Indeed, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain visited Conte's recently and was impressed enough to tape a TV show on the place. Run by John Conte, the tempermental iconic cook, this eatery looks more like a "dive" then a restaurant. Despite its oddball decor and utter lack of convention, Conte's is known for good food, whipped up by a grouchy yet skilled cook who serves huge helpings of seafood complemented by great rounds of fresh-baked bread all at a very reasonable price. Conte's offers a different menu each night, with specialties such as salmon verdi, canestrelli (scallops), pesce porchetta (haddock and sausage) and astaco (lobster). Conte's is a true Maine icon - a consistent gathering place for people in blue collar and professional garb alike. Don't look for a sign because there isn't one. Just look for a disreputable-looking building that's covered in fish netting and surrounded by nautical junk. It's next to a framing store if that helps. Dinner is served daily from 5pm - 8pm. But don't come late if you want to be served!
