This classic, federal home was built in 1824 by Mr. Frederick Lewis. He sold it to William Poor, owner of the oldest drug store in the state of Maine. Mr. Poor married a lady whose first name was Wealthy. Thus we are the proud owners of the 180 year old Wealthy Poor House!

Belfast is the perfect location for exploring Maine's midcoast area from Rockland to Bar Harbor, both an hour away. The center of town and the water are jus ta three block walk away, past some lovely old homes on "The Museum of the Street" trail here in Belfast, ME.

Rather than it being in one building as most inns are, the Trailing Yew consists of a number of cottages and buildings. Specifically, this is a complex of four homes equipped with shared baths, averaging 5 rooms per bath. Each house has a heated common room. The Trailing Yew specializes in a more rustic if not, "funky" vacation experience. Visitors here are in for a return to the old coastal life of 100 years ago. There are no phones, televisions or radios in the rooms. Who needs modern amenities if you are going back 100 years? Most of the guest rooms are lit by kerosene lamps ~ though there are about 12 with electricity. The tranquility that the Trailing Yew offers will give you the respite from the stressful lifestyle of modern life and will certainly leave you with a memorable experience from your stay here. Rates include breakfast and dinner, taxes and gratuities.

How this Bed and Breakfast Section is Organized

This Bed and Breakfast section is organized into three distinct categories: B&B Index Listings, B&B Profiles and an All Area B&Bs List of all the area bed and breakfast inns listed alphabetically.

The B&B Index Listings contained in the above tabs provide a brief overview for each inn. Each listing provides an indexed summary of the most common information generally requested by travelers for vacation planning and booking purposes. The information presented here includes a basic property description, contact information, price range, map location, booking link, links to customer reviews, featured amenities (refer to the amenity icons key in the next to last tab above for icon definitions) and the business website link. The index listings are presented alphabetically and are designed to help you quickly compare accommodations and bed and breakfast facilities by providing you with an easy-to-grasp overview of a property's most important features.

The B&B Profile offers a more complete property profile. The profile is like a mini- website with in-depth information about important business attributes, including services, accommodations, products, rates, features, amenities, pictures, location, polices, and contact information that are presented as a tabbed summary of the inn's lodging information all on one single web page. The profiles are designed to help you research accommodations and inn amenities by providing you with the kind of quality information you need in order to make the right decisions when planning your trip. You can see an inn's profile by clicking on the "See Inn Profile" link or on the inn name in the respective inn's index listing.

The All Area B&Bs is a simple alphabetized list of all the bed and breakfast properties in the Camden region and the nearby surrounding communities that make up this part of Midcoast Maine. You can click on an inn in this list and it wil take you to the corresponding Index Listing for that property. Use the All Area B&Bs list to see all the bed and breakfast inns in the area at a glance.

Finally, every attempt has been made in this guide to provide accurate information for each listing. However, since changes inevitably occur, we suggest you contact the bed and breakfast inn directly to confirm pricing and other specific needs and/or special requests.
